another crazy one

we've started using 1/8" x 1/2" for rodding. it's very good but i can't help but to consider the angle iron someone mentioned in another post. the flat is great for any pressure exerted vertically, but during transportation/hand (http://maplered.com) ling, when the piece "is" verticle the "rod" doesn't offer the same strength. obviously the time spent cutting out for angle isn't particularly cost effective but if a blade were made that could notch out the Granite (http://tanbrown.org) all at once that would be great.
am i way off base; any ideas?
